Plantronics and Polycom Transform Into Poly

Posted by Annelise Fasnacht on Mar 22, 2019 2:59:33 PM

Nearly a year to the day since announcing its acquisition of Polycom, Plantronics has unveiled its latest evolutionary leap. The company formerly known as Plantronics will become Poly, and with the new name comes a renewed commitment to collaboration solutions that bridge distances and eliminate distractions.

“Our new brand represents the many elements of our history that we bring together to enable people to work the way we all work now, which is anywhere and across multiple collaboration tools,” said Amy Barzdukas, Poly’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “No other company has as many communications devices and services that we offer across any platform of choice, and the true power will be in how we bring them together so people can do more.”

Poly plans to harness its power in order to innovate in the following four areas:

Improved Workspaces

The modern-day workspace is a porous zone. The rise of open office plans has engendered a desirable fluidity and flexibility, but it has also created the conditions for a noisier and sometimes more chaotic collaboration environment. Poly aims to offer solutions that mitigate such aural distraction and provide respites in the form of collaboration-ready huddle rooms.

Inclusive Collaboration

There are myriad ways for workers to connect and collaborate, and Poly seeks to ensure that everyone has access to the communication solutions they prefer. On a single work day in 2019, you might find yourself leaping from video conferencing to email to messaging to content sharing to white boarding to teleconferencing. There are so many ways to combine communication styles. Poly wants to make the transitions between tools as smooth as possible.

Mobile Solutions

The key to any successful communication solution is robust support for mobile users. The line between on-premise and remote work is blurry. On-premise and remote employees might not drop their anchors in the same place, but they definitely spend a good chunk of their time on the move. The modern day workforce is defined by this indefinability and flux. It is all motion. Poly honors this state of affairs with solutions that prioritize mobility.

Cloud-Based Collaboration

The increasing popularity of cloud-based collaboration solutions is a boon to end users, but it can be difficult for IT professionals to monitor and manage these solutions. Poly strives to strike a balance between accessibility and security, flexibility and consistency.

But this is just the beginning. Conferencing and collaboration technology will continue to evolve. Poly plans on being there to help build the future.

“We see limitless opportunity for how people communicate and collaborate today,” Poly president and chief executive officer Joe Burton said in a press release. “With advancements in AI, machine learning and new technologies, we see a future where Poly makes the connection, then quietly steps out of the way to become the one thing you don’t notice in the meeting.”
