How The Cloud Is Disrupting Traditional Room Solutions

Posted by Annelise Fasnacht on May 14, 2019 8:29:16 AM

As of 2019, the cloud computing market neared the $200 billion mark, jumping 21% from just a year before. The cloud is claiming more and more information technology services, and for good reason. With cloud-based services, companies big and small can forget storage, maintenance and IT support worries. And with various subscription options available from most cloud computing services, companies don’t have to fret about the future--with everything in the cloud, capacity can shrink and grow along with business.

Implementing a video conferencing and collaboration solution used to require huge investments in hardware, on-premises systems that demanded not only financial investment but constant IT support. But we’re not all working at the office anymore. Remote workers have called for solutions that allow anyone to join a video conference from anywhere.

Those solutions are cloud-based like Prime Call Cloud UC, a StarLeaf-powered conferencing service that enables users to connect any hardware endpoint (Cisco, Polycom, LifeSize, et al.) to the cloud. So no matter what kind of device you’re using, you’ll be able to join a video conference with minimal hassle.

The upshot of the cloud revolution is that manufacturers of conferencing hardware are now innovating technology that is designed to integrate with any and all cloud conferencing solutions. Polycom recently unveiled Polycom Studio, a simple plug-and-play solution that connects to any PC or Mac via USB, allowing pretty much anyone to take advantage of such Polycom innovations as NoiseBlock and Acoustic Fence technologies.

Avaya has also gotten in on the action with their Avaya IX Collaboration Unit, which integrates with your existing UC platform and delivers dual HD live video and content; a wide field of view; and an integrated microphone. It also offers meeting recording, directory service and address book capabilities.

Room solutions are still vital components of a video conferencing strategy, cloud is additive. And it allows users to pick and choose from myriad hardware options. As companies offer their employees more freedom and flexibility, they should be seeking out technology that supports such shifts in work culture. Everything is changing. And video conferencing solutions are keeping pace with the change.
