Lead Field Technician (NSI)

Job Summary:

Completes all projects assigned by employee’s direct supervisor while collaborating with the project manager. A completed project has all punch list items 100% complete. Additionally provides proactive in-field mentorship and leadership to project team, of Technicians I and II, to include hands-on training throughout the installation.

Key Responsibilities

  • In field, oversees and participates in the following:
  • Ability to install systems as shown on the project drawings and produce field as-built documentation for project records
  • Undertakes the loading and installation of workstations, laptops, and peripherals
    • Undertakes the installation of data equipment, including data racks, patch panels, cable trays, etc.
    • Utilizes appropriate testing equipment to test installed cables
    • Improves upon existing installation and troubleshooting procedures
    • Performs cabling installations, including new commercial data, voice, fiber optic and paging
    • Tests systems and performs signal verification
    • Takes responsibility for installing new cables in new or existing buildings
      • Installs Cat5e,Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optic cabling systems
    • Performs termination and testing of new cabling
    • Responsible for setting up new telecommunications frames
    • Builds and installs racks, dresses and terminates closets, carries out tests and troubleshoots
    • Labels, pulls, and terminates cable.
    • Performs maintenance on cable systems by installing, repairing, programming, and upgrading cable infrastructure
    • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs by troubleshooting cabling system issues
    • Applies established procedures in testing every newly installed or relocated cable
    • Keeps cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standard
    • Works at heights, on poles, and small confined spaces.
    • Works outdoors and in inclement weather conditions
    • Installs devices for alarm, fire, access, and automation systems.
  • Provides documentation of all information on all cable and equipment
  • Drives a company vehicle and operates a variety of tools, such as hand tools, power tools, ladders, leakage detection devices, scissor lifts, and test equipment
  • Provides education to customers on the proper use of all installed equipment and address customer concerns
  • Carries out customer instruction on system operation and functionality
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures and reports all accidents, hazards, and equipment problems

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years cabling/infrastructure experience
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Math skills: Be able to perform basic math functions
  • After hours and/or travel may be required
  • Ability to work from a ladder
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

  • Communication skills: Basic written and verbal communications skills are essential for documentation, report writing, and rapport building
  • Time management skills: They must be able to effectively prioritize tasks and complete them in good time applying planning and forward-thinking skills
  • Computer skills: Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge and practical experience in structured cabling and other advanced technologies to include labeling, pulling, termination and dressing category 3, 5e, and 6; along with fiber optics
  • Possess technical skills and knowledge of telecommunications industry and installations, including voice, data, and video structured cabling systems
  • A strong working knowledge of TIA, EIA, BICSI, or NEC Standards; including installation, trouble shooting and service, and working knowledge of building codes, electrical codes, communication standards, and installation may be required
  • Experience with installing j-hooks, ladder racks and cable tray, and working in MDF/IDF environments.
  • Certifications: Industry specific Manufacturer Certifications and BICSI training and/or certifications is preferred
  • License: Acquire a State appropriate Low Voltage license
