Data Center Low Voltage Technician

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Data Center Low Voltage Technician to support the buildout and maintenance of mission-critical infrastructure in high-availability data center environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in structured cabling systems, with a focus on fiber optic installation, termination, and testing. This role requires precision, safety compliance, and the ability to work in fast-paced construction and operational settings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install and secure basket tray, ladder rack, and cable tray systems for low-voltage cabling pathways.
  • Perform rack fabrication, assembly, and mounting, including seismic bracing where required.
  • Install Fiber Runner systems for overhead and under-floor fiber optic routing.
  • Pull, dress, label, and terminate multi-mode and single-mode fiber optic cabling (LC, SC, MPO/MTP connectors).
  • Splice fiber (fusion and mechanical) and perform OTDR, OLTS, and power meter testing to ensure signal integrity and compliance with TIA/EIA standards.
  • Terminate and test copper cabling (Cat6, Cat6A) as needed for hybrid environments.
  • Collaborate with project managers, electricians, and network engineers during data center buildouts, retrofits, and expansions.
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation, cable schedules, and test results.
  • Adhere to site-specific safety protocols and participate in daily safety briefings.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in data center or mission-critical low-voltage infrastructure buildout, with proven expertise in fiber optic systems.
  • Proficient in basket/cable tray installation and load calculations.
  • Expert in rack fabrication, grounding, and alignment per BICSI and DC design standards.
  • Advanced fiber optic handling: pulling, dressing, termination, splicing, and testing (OTDR/OLTS certified).
  • Familiar with CommScope Fiber Runner and similar pathway systems.
     

Certifications
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety (current).
  • Preferred OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety.
  • Lift Certification
  • BICSI Installer 2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) or Technician (TECH).
  • CommScope/Corning installer certifications preferred

Other Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, rack elevations, and cabling schematics.
  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs, working at heights (ladders/scissor lifts), and in confined spaces.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a background check.

Preferred Skills

  • Fluke and/or Viavi Certifier experience.

Work Environment

  • Full-time, on-site at data center construction and operational facilities.
  • Shift work and overtime during critical deployments.
  • PPE required (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots,gloves, etc.).
