Telepresence for Trauma Environments

Posted by Chessie Skates on May 1, 2013 3:41:00 PM

A new study from the University of Miami reports successful use of telepresence in trauma settings by aiding with staff shortages in disaster scenarios. The use of a remote telepresence surgeon for trauma situations proves to be helpful by having extra professional opinions and diagnosis.

In this study 100+ telepresence patient consultations were performed with 89% of patients saying they felt the treatment was “above average” or “excellent” and high satisfaction reports from both the remote and local doctors.

The result of this study concludes that telepresence in healthcare is useful technology for a trauma facility and trauma doctors when deployed correctly.

Solutionz has its own interactive healthcare site illustrating some key scenarios in which telepresence solutions are most effective such as stroke support, at-home monitoring, emergency vehicles, and outpatient services. Not only is video great for connecting doctors to an under staffed area in a time of crisis, it is great for connecting patients to a specific kind of doctor when travel isn’t an option.
