Telemedicine's Success on the Rise?

The Health Care Industry knows about telemedicine, but the question is, why hasn’t it taken off? The culprit: cost. Even though technologies such as video conferencing and telepresence eventually reduce the overall cost of health care services, it’s the initial cost of deploying the equipment that creates the barrier.

However, the initial cost burden may no longer be an issue as Washington D.C. lawmakers are now looking at video conferencing and telepresence as the way to fix the seemingly broken health care system. These lawmakers are looking to implement this technology as a way to deliver more efficient and effective health care services without increasing resources; thus extending the reach of doctors to rural areas, in nontraditional ways.
